by: Ed ColesThe hills and moors of the southern slopes of Teesdale are often overlooked by walkers who head over the hill to the more popular slopes of Swaledale, or further west to the wilderness of Upper Teesdale. But look more closely and you'll find an area that in its own way will rival either of these two spots.
This 24 mile walk zig-zags its way over Barningham Moor, then climbs over the watershed to enter the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A long climb back up and over brings you to the delights of the Stang Forest before returning to Barningham. This ever changing route with its moorland and forest paths, its airy views and hidden valleys will both challenge and delight the long distance walker.
This illustrated guide provides clear route directions and all the practical advice required to tackle this walk. There are no facilities en route and the walk must be completed in one day of 10 to 12 hours walking. The guide has evaluated the difficulty of the walk using the Ferguson Grading System as F8.
