The Gritstone Trail and the Mow Cop Trail combine to form a long distance footpath of over 27 miles which take the walker through some of the grandest and most rugged terrain in Cheshire; from the wide, featureless moors above Lyme Park to the shapely gritstone edges of Kerridge Hill and Bosley Cloud with their extensive views of the Cheshire Plain. In addition, there are gentle field, woodland and riverside paths along with numerous points of interest.

This book has been written as a complete guide to these popular trails. In addition to a full north to south route description, a series of circular walks has been devised for those who wish to explore the trails at a more leisurely pace or perhaps as a family group. These range from 4 to 7 miles and can be combined to give longer excursions if desired. The locations of the circular walks are: Lyme Park; Kerridge Hill; Lamaload Reservoir; Tegg's Nose; Langley; Sutton Common; Wincle Minn; River Dane; Rushton Spencer; Bosley Cloud; Timbersbrook; Mow Cop.
