Main Book Listing:Long Distance Paths:North Worcestershire Path

North Worcestershire Path
by: Jonathan Preston, Della Hook and Dave Hollis

This regional route runs for 27 miles, running East to West across the north of Worcestershire. The path starts at Kingsford Forest Park near Blakeshall on the southern side of Kinver Edge, and finishes at Majors Green, near Wythall. The route is via Caunsall, Hagley, Clent Hills, Waseley Hills Country Park, Lickey Hills and Wythall. The path was opened in the early eighties following existing rights of way and has become increasingly popular because of its landscape and interest.

This guide is designed to help both novice and veteran walkers to enjoy the route to the full. It is split into roughly three sections. The first contains the route maps and accompanying text. the second section is intended to give a brief insight into the wild plants and animals which may be encountered along the route, while the third section deals with the varied and facinating historical (and sometimes fictional) features of the route.

North Worcestershire Path

North Worcestershire Path & Midland Link
by: John Roberts

Hills, views, woods, villages, lakes, churches, canals, a mellow moated mansion and a mediaeval castle - you meet them all on this 46 mile long distance footpath. Running across the southern fringe of the West Midlands area and into Warwickshire, it connects the Staffordshire Way and the Worcestershire Way on Kinver Edge with the Heart of England Way at Baddesley Clinton and the Centenary Way at Kenilworth.

The western half of the route is the North Worcestershire Path, a 26 mile walk created by Worcestershire County Council to link Country Parks at Kinver Edge, the Clent Hills, Waseley Hills and Lickey Hills with the picnic site at Forhill, south of Kings Norton. The Midland link was devised by John Roberts and comprises a 20 mile route via Wythall, Earlswood Lakes, Tanworth in Arden, Umberslade Park with its obelisk, Lapworth with its canal junction, Baddesley Clinton Manor, ancient Hay Wood and Kenilworth Castle.
