by: Les HamThis 350 mile long distance walk is a walk in the footsteps of history, along a route that encompasses a reminder of England's heritage. It follows the march in 1688 of Prince William of Orange and his army from Brixham in Devon, across the English countryside to London. It meets rivers and canals, crosses great plains, goes over hills, and through towns and villages but is never far from an overnight hostelry, railway station or bus route and does not require awkward positioning walks to join or exit the route. It links the walker to the unfolding story of the 'Glorious Revolution', highlighting the relevant events which took place along the route.
The route is described in both directions and broken down into 15 sections. Heading east, the section starting points are: Brixham, Newton Abbot, Exeter, Honiton, Beaminster, Sherborne, Wincanton, Hindon, Salisbury, Burbage, Newbury, Abingdon, Reading, Windsor, Brentford. The route finishes at St James's Palace. There is an historical commentry and practical information including a route calculator with all milages and estimated times.
