Croydon Walking Events

Thursday 4th August - Mitcham Common Midweek Meander: Come and join the Mitcham Common Preservation Society for a gentle stroll around this important wildlife site. Meet at Mill House Ecology Centre, Windmill Road, Mitcham at 10.30am, walk ends at noon. Nearest bus: 264, 118

Friday 12th August - Bats over Water: South Norwood Lake is a great place for bat watching, not only can you 'hear' them with a bat detector you might even be able to see them cruising over the lake on this two hour bat walk. Meet at 8.30pm at the main entrance to the park, off Woodvale Avenue. Places are limited, so please call 0208 7605768 ext 64952 to book your place.

Saturday 27th August - A summer's day out in Foxley Wood: Join the friends of Foxley on a 1.5 hour guided walk along the newly restored Nature Trail through this Local Nature Reserve wood. Enjoy the shade under the oak trees and learn about the fauna and flora found in the meadow and wood. Meet at 2pm at the entrance to the wood, off Higher Drive Recreation Ground.

This programme of events has been produced by partnership between Croydon Council and Country Parks. All the walks are free.
Who Leads these Walks? Wardens based at South norwood Country Park, Riddlesdown and Whyteleaf and at Happy Valley and Farthing Downs lead these walks. The Downlands Countryside Management Project also works within Croydon and organises walks.
Who are these walks for? These walks are aimed at people who would like to find out more about wildlife and the management of open spaces in Croydon. The walks are suitable for most people as the pace is generally easy, but routes can be hilly in parts.
