Cumberland Way
Location: Cumbria
OS Maps: Outdoor Leisure 4,5,6,19
The Cumberland Way is an 80 mile long distance path from the Irish Sea across the Lake District National Park, through the Cumbrian mountains to the Eden Valley beneath the Pennines. The route starts at Ravenglass and ends at Appleby following a meandering route passing through Wasdale, Black Sail Pass, Buttermere, Keswick, Castlerigg stone circle, Dockray, Aira Force, Eamont Bridge and Brougham Castle. The Way does not take in any mountain summits, preferring to seek out the passes and old tracks through the hills. The advantage of this is that the route is not susceptible to bad weather problems and provides a safer walk across open fells. The route takes in some glorious scenery from sweeping mountains to deep blue lakes.
The Cumberland Way links conveniently with Westmoreland Way and the Furness Way.
