Eden Valley Walk
Location: Kent; Surrey
OS Maps: Explorer 147
The Eden Valley Walk will enable you to explore and experience the variety of the Kent Countryside along the valleys of the River Eden and River Medway between Edenbridge and Tonbridge. The route passes through the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is of interest for its natural history and archaeological, historical and architectural features. This 24km linear path will give you the opportunity of enjoying the valley; a rolling landscape of ridges and valleys at its centre with a patchwork of small fields, hedges and broad leaved woods. Upstream the route traces the River Eden as it meanders through a flatter pastoral landscape. Historic houses, set in parkland, are passed en route, whilst downstream the route keeps company with the River Medway through Haysden Country Park.
The route is suitable for family groups and the casual walker as well as the seasoned rambler. The whole walk, or sections of it, can be undertaken utilising public transport, thus avoiding the need to retrace your steps. The route is well signposted and waymarked with a special Eden Valley Walk logo. The official start point is Cernes Farm, a small timber framed house dating from 1500, but if you are using a car it is best to park at Haxted Mill. If you are arriving by train the walk from Lingfield station adds about 3km.
