The Heart of England Way
Location: Gloucestershire,
Warwickshire, Staffordshire
OS Maps: Explorer 205, 221, 232, 244
Running for 160 km from Bourton in the Water in the Cotswolds, via the Avon valley and the fringes of the Vale of Evesham, to the Forest of Arden, and then northwards along the Tame valley and across the plateau of Cannock Chase, the Heart of England Way leads the walker through a series of quintessentially English landscapes. Here you can walk in fields and woods that would have been familiar to Shakespeare and, as the route skirts round the great Midland conurbation, see many of the surviving relics of Britain's industrial revolution.
