High Weald Landscape Trail

Location: Sussex, Kent

OS Maps: Explorer 134; 135; 136; 125

The High Weald Landscape Trail crosses the counties of West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent, from Horsham to Rye, and provides an opportunity to explore the heart of south-east England. Meandering through the intimate rolling landscape of small fields, hop gardens, orchards, flower rich meadows, and ancient woodland, studded with ponds and sandstone outcrops, the 90 mile Trail links the ridge top villages and the historic gardens for which the area is famous. The trail is suitable for beginners and seasoned walkers and can be completed in seven to ten days or undertaken in sections. It is accessible by public transport at a number of points, allowing you to return to your starting point without retracing your steps. The route is well signposted and waymarked with the High Weald Landscape Trail logo. The Trail guide describes the route in seven sections as follows:

Section 1 Western High Weald - from Horsham to Cuckfield.
Section 2 Western High Weald from Cuckfield to East Grinstead
Section 3 Upper Medway from East Grinstead to Groombridge

Section 4 Central High Weald from Groombridge to Matfield
Section 5 Kentish High Weald from Matfield to Rolvenden
Section 6 Lower Rother from Rolvenden to Flackley Ash
Section 7 Brede from Flackley Ash to Rye
