The Sussex Border Path is highly regarded and well established as a very worthwhile route. It is also easy to accomplish as a series of day walks, rather than as a continuous hike. It follows the inland borders of the county from Thorney Island in West Sussex to Rye in East Sussex, passing through unspoilt countryside with constantly changing views, charming villages and small friendly pubs offering good food and beer. Along the way there are many fine old buildings including Saxon and Norman churches, half timbered houses and converted oasts.

The route commences with a circumnavigation of Thorney Island and then heads north across West Sussex, passing over the South Downs. Near Liphook the route turns east heading for East Grinstead where it merges with the Mid Sussex link which starts at Brighton. After Ashchurch the route passes south of Tunbridge Wells making it's way towards the Sussex coast at Rye.
