Angles Way

Location: Norfolk; Suffolk

OS Maps: Explorer™ OL40; 230; 231

The Angles Way is named after the ancient peoples who lived in this part of Britain. From Great Yarmouth the route follows the southern bank of Breydon Water to the impressive Roman fort at Gariannonum (Burgh Castle). It then heads across country to Oulton Broad. There starts the Way's journey to the source of the river Waveney and thence, a few miles further on, to the end of the Way at Knettishall Heath near Thetford where it meets up with the Peddars Way and the Icknield Way.

The mixed walking along footpaths, riverbanks, through a combination of open countryside, coastal plain and then the Waveney Valley, takes you through some of the best scenery in Norfolk. Burgh Castle is an historical gem and a special treat awaits naturalists in the Broads area. A highlight of the walk is the variety and number of windmills and windpumps encountered on the route. Nowhere else will you see them in such numbers and they played a key role in transforming the landscape.

Together with the Weavers Way, Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path Angles Way forms a circular tour of Norfolk.
