Walking Events in Croydon

Croydon Council, in partnership with local organisations, provide a range of walking opportunities for residents and visitors. The program of walks are published twice yearly in the 'Walk Croydon' leaflet.

Guided Wildlife Walks - Into the Great Green Yonder
These walks have been available for some time now. They are suitable for most people as the pace is generally easy, but paths can be uneven, muddy at times and hilly in places. Children must be accompanied by a guardian. Dogs on a lead are welcome. All the walks are lead by experienced Countryside Wardens, Park Officers, or Group volunteers.

Monday 2nd January 2012 - Get Blown Along the Riddlesdown Ridge: Follow in the steps of our ancestors across chalk grassland with distant vistas and the wind in our faces. Meet Marion, volunteer with the Downlands Project, at 10.30am in the Riddlesdown Common car park, at the top end of Riddlesdown Road. Some steep slopes. Bus 412.

Tuesday 10th January 2012 - Winter Birds at South Norwood Country Park: Meet the Countryside Warden at 10.00am by the visitor centre in the park for this 2-3 hour walk. Bring a pair of binoculars if you have them.

Sunday 22nd January 2012 - Happy Valley and Farthing Downs Nature Trail: The Happy Valley warden will lead a 1.5 hour walk on the historic Farthing Downs section of the nature trail. Meet at 2.00pm in the Farthing Downs car park, Ditches Lane, Coulsdon.

Tuesday 14th February 2012 - Historic Wandle: Join the countryside warden for a 4 hour walk along the Wandle Trail towards Beddington Park and back. Learn about the river's wildlife and history. Meet at 10.00am by the Mill Lane entrance to Waddon Ponds. Bring a snack and a flask for a mid-walk break. Please call 0208 6565947 for more information.
