Walking Events in the Staffordshire Moorlands

The Parks and Countryside Service of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council provide a programme of walks and activities throughout the district. The walks are graded for different levels of fitness. Some of the walks are aimed at or are suitable for families. There is usually no need to book; just turn up a few minutes before the start time. Dogs are not allowed.

The events are led by staff from the Parks and Countryside Service or by experienced volunteer walk leaders and specialist organisations. Where a walk states that booking is required to reserve a place telephone 01538 395522

 

Sunday 15th January 2012 - Down to Denford: This 5.5 mile (9km) walk will take in Deep Hayes Country Park, the Caldon Canal at Denford, and a climb up to Cats Tor and Knowsley Common. Meet Steve Massey at 1.00pm at the Deep Hayes Country Park Visitor Centre off Sutherland Road, Longsdon. (GR SJ 962534).

Sunday 29th January 2012 - Dovedale: A medium 6.5 mile walk from Ilam along the west side of dovedale. We will go over Bunster Hill through Dovedale Woods to Hall Dale and Stanshope, returning through Castern and Ilam Park. Meet John Mills at Ilam Village (GR SK135508) (free on street parking) at 10.30am.

Sunday 19th February 2012 - Cauldon Connections: Join Countryside Officer Emma Mortimer for this 4 mile fascinating trip around Froghall and Foxt. Meet Emma at Froghall Wharf car park at 10.30am. (GR SK 026476)

Sunday 11th March 2012 - The Raddle Men: A medium 8 mile country walk to the south east border of the moorlands. Our walk will take us to Hollington (pub visit) returning through Croxden and Gallows Green to Alton. Meet John Mills at the Ramblers Retreat car park (free) at 10.30am Bring a packed lunch. Sunday 25th March 2012 - Has Spring Sprung?: A 5.5 mile (9km) walk through woods, fields and heathland between Brown Edge and Biddulph, looking for early signs of spring. Includes a circuit around Knypersley reservoir before climbing back up to the starting point to take in the panoramic views of the upper Trent valley. Meet Steve Massey at 2.00pm in the Marshes Hill Common car park off Hill Top, Brown Edge. (GR SJ 906545).
