Oxfam Yorkshire Dales Trailtrekker Challenge

Saturday June 4th 2011

Oxfam's Trailtrekker 2011, now in its third year, is a circular walk which starts at Aireville School in Skipton, North Yorkshire. The route continues in a loop through the stunning National Park passing Malham Cove and Pen-y-ghent before looping round past Buckden and Conistone to finish the following day back in Skipton. This is a 100km non-stop team charity walk in aid of Oxfam.

The first group will set off at 6am. Further groups will set off at 7am, 8am and 9am. The event requires teams of four to walk through the night to complete the course within 30 hours. The average time taken to date to complete the Trailtrekker course is 28 hours.

Oxfam's 100km charity challenge takes place in eleven different countries around the world with over 15,000 people taking part globally. Last year's Trailtrekker event saw 164 teams take part, raising a total of £385,000.

Rick Lay, Fundraising and Communications Manager at Oxfam said: "Trailtrekker is a really exciting challenge and completing the course brings a huge sense of achievement - not many people can say they have walked two and a half marathons non stop! You obviously need to train for Trailtrekker, but the great thing is that people can do it at their own pace so there's no real barrier to getting involved."
